  Write out alpha-MSH and it ends in the letters K, P, V. That is the whole of KPV. It is easy to assume a fragment behaves like the molecule it came from, and there is a 2003 paper that tested exactly that assumption and found the two parting company. FDA later counted the citations behind KPV's nomination and found eight of nine were about the parent.
